Background Information

Kingdom of Adregon 907-1-1

History

The Kingdom was founded over a thousand years ago from the present-day. Its founder was a famed Hero of old; a warrior-king that possessed extraordinarily powerful artifacts of his time, that allowed him to unify the land that would later become Adregon. This man's name would eventually be realized as Raric sol Adregon, the Kingdom's first and most powerful monarch. In Raric's time, the land was full of monstrous, magical entities; demons they were called, that were bent on smothering the Divines creation that was Theyla. In order to secure a land for his people, he'd have to enact a "Divine Cleansing" on the land, in hopes of casting out all evils. Raric could not do this on his own. However, after having proven his loyalty and faith to the Divines, he won their blessing and a Mentor was sent down to him; an Elder Dragon by the name of Leyowyn. The Elder Dragon had scales and flames of gold, and was nigh Divine in presence, wisdom and power. Raric rode atop Leyowyn's back in their war against the demons, and eventually all demons were vanquished from the land's surface. This Elder Dragon would eventually be made into the royal family's coat-of-arms...

Overtime, Raric's kingdom grew in scale, authority, influence and power. None would stand in the Kingdom's way as it progressed on Theyla, and it had already been ahead of everyone else. It wasn't until a neighboring warlord decided to step up, and challenge the King of the time, that their borders stopped their seemingly inevitable expansion. This warlord, would later become a neighboring Kingdom's founder, and Adregon's envious rival, the Kingdom of Calendre. When the Code of Chivalry was devised, the peaceful Kingdom of Adregon halted its expansion. Though the mighty Kingdom of Adregon stopped conquering the lot of Theyla, its neighbors were too ambitious. They continued to build, and eventually these Kingdoms would become at par with Adregon, and Adregon, though powerful and exceptionally more experienced, would be one among many Kingdoms that would dictate Theyla.

Still, the thought that Adregon would always be a step ahead of the rest of the world angered many Kings & Queens. The peaceful Kingdom would have to fight armies of armed men and magical creatures that desired nothing but its downfall, in order to prove that Adregon was in fact the Kingdom all others should strive to become. And for a while, this worked. Adregon was always successful in its defense, and meted out punishment within the kingdom, where it was due; but only for a while... Angelus sol Adregon would become one of Adregon's finest, but last King.

Just over a year before the present-day, Angelus sol Adregon, King of Adregon would be overthrown; and his heirs slain by his illegitimate son. The royal family's golden dragon was no more, and the black phoenix spread its abyssal wings. So, the ancient line of royalty would start anew, under a new king. The new king consolidated his power in just over a year, and the old ways were no more. The people of Adregon still don't know what to think... Is the new king a tyrant or was the change necessarily inevitable? And so, with the people at odds with themselves, the Kingdom, to many, is in a vulnerable state of being. New enemies rise to undermine the new regime, and to take or destroy Adregon... But, with new evils, new heroes arise as well.

Culture

The Kingdom of Adregon encompasses much of the northern Theyla. It is well-known to have been the lands most powerful Kingdom for centuries, and with the best Knights in history at its disposal. Despite that, the Code of Chivalry, which the Kings of Adregon greatly adhered to and embodied, kept their ambitions in check. For many centuries, Adregon had been a city of marvel, where all were welcome; their only enemies, were those who envied the Kingdom's peace, prosperity and stability. The castle-city which serves as Adregon's capital, is well-known for never having been successfully sieged by an enemies efforts. Those born & raised in Adregon are known to be strongly faithful in the Divine and their otherworldly ways, and their beliefs and their blessings have helped make Adregon the strong Kingdom it remains to be even in the present-day. Being a center of benevolence, it has often attracted evil creatures, mostly of magic. And where one denizen has faith, another may have magic -- which was never trusted by the people of Adregon.

With a new, questionable king, magic has been outlawed within Adregon. The only sorcerers who are able to legally practice and study magic within Adregon are those who serve the King and the royal court. This has served to discourage the use of magic, and if discovered, mages are burned on the stake. Due to this new law, rogue mages have coalesced into Druidic Circles, various tribes of magic practitioners, who remain in Adregon illegally, but migrate often in order to keep old traditions alive within the new kingdom. Knights no longer have to adhere to the Code of Chivalry during wartime, but many still do in service of the new king. The people of Adregon are now more familiar than ever with security, and warfare, and most are trained as militiamen and militiawomen if ever they are needed for the capital's defense.
